BECALME wasn't created because I wanted to sell hair. It was created because hair has always been a part of who I am. Before there were products, packaging, or a website, there was my family.

The name BECALME carries a piece of our legacy.

The "B" represents our family name, Barber. While "CALM" is formed from the initials of my siblings and me: Cross, Aidyn, Leigh, and Mykah. What started as a simple idea became something much bigger—a name that represents the people who shaped me, the values we share, and the foundation this brand was built upon.

BECALME is a reminder that every meaningful journey begins somewhere, and this is where mine began. 

Growing up in an interracial family gave me a unique perspective on hair from an early age. My own hair journey has evolved over the years—from naturally bone straight, to becoming wavy, and now embracing its curly texture. Experiencing those changes firsthand, while being surrounded by family members with different hair types and routines, taught me that every head of hair has different needs. It sparked a genuine curiosity to learn how to care for not only my own hair, but the hair of others as well. What began as simply understanding different textures eventually grew into a passion that inspired the foundation of BECALME.

What started as a hobby slowly became something I couldn't stop thinking about. I knew I wanted to create something that would allow others to experience the same confidence that comes from loving your hair and feeling like the best version of yourself.

That's how BECALME was born.
